Quick Chapati Recipe

Chapatis are a traditional Indian flatbread that works perfectly with any curry and a delicious alternative to rice (or addition if you’re feeling extra hungry)!

Ingredients

140g wholemeal flour
140g plain flour
2 tbsp olive oil
200ml warm water
1 tsp salt

Method

  • Sieve together the two flours into a large mixing bowl ensure they’re combined.
  • Using a wooden spoon, stir in the olive oil and enough warm water that it forms a soft dough (you might not need to use all the water).
  • On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until its smooth (should be around 5-10 minutes).
  • Divide into even pieces (approximately around 10, but depending on how large you would like the chapati, and roll into a ball. Let the balls rest for 5 minutes.
  • Heat a frying pan on medium heat and lightly grease.
  • Roll out the balls into thin tortilla shapes.
  • When the frying pan is hot, put a chapati on and cook for 30 seconds on each side. Continue until all the dough is used up.
